The European Council in Brussels announced that the upcoming month will mark the implementation of the historic regulations for artificial intelligence. These laws were approved by the European Union countries during a meeting of European Affairs Ministers, in a political agreement reached in December. This approval represents a potential global standard for regulating artificial intelligence technology used in various aspects of life and business.
Concerns have escalated about the role of artificial intelligence in spreading misinformation, fake news, and copyrighted materials globally in recent times, while generative AI systems have gained popularity.
The Belgian Minister of Technology, Mathieu Michel, stated that this historic law, the first of its kind globally, addresses a global technological challenge and provides opportunities for our societies and economies.
He emphasized that Europe considers trust, transparency, and accountability important factors in dealing with new technologies under the Artificial Intelligence Act, while ensuring the promotion of European innovation and the thriving fast-evolving technology.
