Professor Diaa Al-Jumaili, advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office for Scientific Affairs and Artificial Intelligence, stated to the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the first conference on artificial intelligence in Iraq is being held today in Erbil under the supervision of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and the Artificial Intelligence Advisory Board in the Prime Minister’s Office. He noted that the conference brings together numerous experts, academics, and experienced individuals in the field of artificial intelligence.
Al-Jumaili pointed out that the goal of the conference is to introduce artificial intelligence in Iraq by leveraging both local and international expertise. He emphasized that the Fourth Industrial Revolution relies on modern industrial revolution and artificial intelligence, which began in Baghdad 1200 years ago and originated in Khwarazm and the House of Wisdom, and they are striving to bring it back to Iraq.
He indicated that we are entering a new era through the industrial revolution and Iraq has a strategy for it. Iraq is considered the leading country in the region in the use of artificial intelligence, with Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani chairing the High Committee for Artificial Intelligence and personally supervising it, which is not the case in other countries in the region.
He mentioned the existence of short and long-term strategies extending until 2050, aiming to establish specialized faculties in artificial intelligence in all Iraqi universities. Additionally, transforming agricultural colleges into smart colleges utilizing modern technology. Artificial intelligence subjects will be taught in primary and secondary schools, confirming that this idea is an initiative and vision from the Prime Minister.
He added: “An artificial intelligence center will be established in Iraq by the end of the conference, located at the American University in Baghdad and supported by the government and other universities.”
