The Human Rights Union applauded the efforts of countries utilizing artificial intelligence technologies to enhance human rights performance, especially the successful Emirati experience considered one of the best models in the region for utilizing artificial intelligence in a humane manner.
This was stated in a verbal statement issued by the Union in cooperation with the Arab-European Forum for Dialogue and Human Rights during the general discussion of the eighth item of the activities of the United Nations Human Rights Council, as part of the Union’s participation in the 55th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva at a high level.
Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, the President of the Union, delivered the statement, emphasizing the importance of the Council protecting digital rights regarding the protection of personal data, preventing all forms of illegal use or exploitation of personal information, and addressing all violations resulting from the use of modern technologies and artificial intelligence.
The efforts made by the Human Rights Council in monitoring and implementing the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action were appreciated, affirming the importance of achieving the goals accomplished by the Declaration over the past thirty years, meeting the basic needs of current and future generations. The Declaration also emphasized the importance of implementing the “right to development” principle. The President of the Human Rights Union stressed the importance of continued international cooperation to enhance the implementation of the Declaration, pointing out that the evaluation results indicated the failure to achieve the desired outcomes and that the main challenge is the Declaration’s inability to address future challenges in the field of human rights. The Human Rights Union participates in meetings of the United Nations Human Rights Council to enhance the role of civil society and non-governmental organizations in this context.
This participation aims to enhance the Union’s status and contributions at the regional and international levels, and to strengthen partnerships between the Emirati civil society and various international organizations concerned with human rights.
