The research efforts and initiatives of the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence contribute to supporting and enhancing mechanisms in five key sectors including healthcare, aviation, education, agriculture, and energy, thereby reinforcing the country’s vision for achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.
The university has launched over 20 current and future research projects in the healthcare field, in collaboration with partners such as “Malaria No More,” “Cure AI,” “Aspire,” “Infinity Brain Technology – I.T.,” Abu Dhabi Healthcare Services, and Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City.
Furthermore, the establishment of the Digital Public Health Institute aims to consolidate these efforts in order to provide a pathway that enables developments in artificial intelligence to support the UAE’s vision and enhance its position as a global hub for artificial intelligence and life sciences.
Artificial intelligence helps improve operations in the aviation sector, enhancing passenger safety and experiences by using AI algorithms to predict aircraft maintenance needs, utilize them efficiently, and reduce departure delays.
Last year, the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence signed a memorandum of understanding with the Etihad Aviation Group to initiate joint initiatives and conduct research on using artificial intelligence to achieve tangible transformation in the aviation sector.
Artificial intelligence technologies are used to increase crop productivity, enhance food security, and improve resource efficiency in agriculture, through an agreement between the university and Salal Food and Technology Company, to benefit from AI innovations in agriculture and food production fields.
The agreement also contributes to establishing a joint Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence that can enable the UAE to develop and expand its food production sector and support sustainable practices within it.
In the field of education, artificial intelligence is reshaping the concept and methods of education by personalizing learning experiences, creating new types of them, and automating administrative tasks in this sector. Adaptive learning platforms use AI algorithms to design curricula and educational materials tailored to the individual needs of each student and their learning pace.
The Meta-Verse Center at the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence conducts research on virtual transportation solutions in the meta-verse world using artificial intelligence. These solutions aim to expand education by enabling children in remote areas to attend school virtually through immersive 3D environments. The university also explores possible ways to create 3D content and avatars based on requests.
In the energy sector, artificial intelligence works to enhance operations, increase efficiency, and promote sustainability. The Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence supports efforts to achieve widespread sustainability in artificial intelligence and seeks to find means to reduce energy consumption.
The university is one of the leading institutions in innovating a specialized AI operating system, a technology aimed at significantly reducing the high costs associated with AI computing, focusing on energy, time, and skills.
Smart distribution networks utilize AI algorithms to monitor and manage energy distribution in real-time, improving load consumption and reducing energy waste. In this context, a team from the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence works on providing AI solutions for smart distribution networks using federated learning technology to train machine learning models. This enables knowing energy usage habits of millions of users without compromising data privacy, allowing energy providers to greatly improve efficiency and reliability in the energy distribution process.
