The Jais Climate, the world’s first bilingual linguistic model dedicated to climate and sustainability, has been launched by the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence (Jais). This was done in partnership with Kore 42, a subsidiary of the G42 technology group. Jais Climate aims to provide information and raise awareness about climate change and sustainability to inspire action.
The development of Jais Climate was aimed at enhancing communication and discussions at both local and international levels. It contains climate-related information totaling 1.4 million in Arabic and English, with the goal of providing detailed insights on environmental policies for the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, it addresses the upcoming COP28 conference, which will commence in Dubai on November 30th.
The model was trained on the Climanestract platform, a large bilingual dataset containing instructions on climate and sustainability topics collected from various sources in both English and Arabic languages.
The Jais Climate model was designed to be accessible to a diverse audience, offering its services to decision-makers in governments, business leaders, students, and families. This allows access to climate data for over 274 million Arabic speakers and 1.4 billion English speakers worldwide.
The development of the Jais Climate model is based on the Jais 13B, a high-quality Arabic linguistic model developed by Kore 42 in collaboration with the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence and Cybepas Systems. It also benefits from the technology and lessons learned from Ficona, a high-level linguistic program that is open-source and energy-efficient, launched in April 2023.
