A fierce battle is raging between France and Britain to win the title of the artificial intelligence capital in Europe.
Lately, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak have been making bold statements about artificial intelligence, each striving to compete in the technology market and secure a share of it.
On June 18th, Emmanuel Macron told CNBC during the annual France Viva Tech technology conference: “I feel that we are leading in the field of artificial intelligence in Europe, and we must accelerate in this matter.”
During the London Tech Week conference on June 12th, the United Kingdom presented itself as the “geographical home” for organizing global safety in artificial intelligence, as stated by Sunak.
France pledged to invest 500 million euros in developing artificial intelligence technologies, while the United Kingdom made a commitment of £1.3 billion for research in cloud computing and artificial intelligence, aiming to achieve global strength in the scientific and technological field.
Countries differ in how they regulate artificial intelligence, with France being subject to European laws, which will limit its superiority over Britain in the field of artificial intelligence due to the protection and privacy regulations imposed strongly by the European Union.
