According to a report from the “Gartner” market research firm, online search engines are expected to decline by up to 25% due to advances in artificial intelligence technologies.
The main reason behind the decrease in the online search engine market, according to the report, is the widespread use of generative artificial intelligence like chatbots, image creation tools, and other similar tools.
With this expected shift, Gartner advises companies to rethink their marketing strategies; where generative artificial intelligence solutions will become alternative search engines that users will rely on to easily and quickly ask questions and get answers compared to traditional search engines.
Currently, many companies rely on content marketing strategy to reach their target audience by appearing in search results or purchasing paid advertisements in search result pages.
The company also emphasized that search engine algorithms will favor high-quality content due to the increase in AI-generated content.
Despite major internet search companies not favoring these expected changes, it is noticeable that these same companies are the ones offering the most popular generative AI services, such as Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot.
It is expected that service-providing companies will place advertisements and paid links within their services to cover operating costs and generate profits.
This change may also provide an opportunity for competitive services to appear for traditional search engines like Perplexity, according to plans by OpenAI, the developers of the famous ChatGPT robot, to launch an online search service according to recent reports.
