The CEO of “Apple” participated in a discussion on climate change at a forum in Beijing, as part of his company’s efforts to demonstrate its commitment to the Chinese market.
Tim Cook, the CEO of “Apple”, stated:
“Artificial intelligence is a fundamental tool for companies seeking to minimize carbon effects”
Cook took part in a discussion at the annual Chinese Development Forum on carbon neutrality and climate change, and how companies can reduce their negative impacts on their operations. Apple has set some ambitious goals to reduce its carbon footprint, describing the Apple Watch as the first carbon-neutral product among its competitors.
Cook emphasized the company’s environmental goal:
“We are making significant progress, but we have not yet reached our goal, and moving forward requires more innovation. Artificial intelligence provides a vast array of tools for any company that aims to become carbon-neutral or significantly reduce carbon emissions.”
The CEO of Apple returned to an event in Beijing, having been one of the prominent participants last year, marking his first personal attendance in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cook spoke with Chinese State Councilor Li Keqiang and other global company executives after an opening speech by Li.
Cook told reporters that he had been regularly visiting China over the past year because he finds life and activity there enjoyable. Last week, his social team documented his visits on his personal Weibo account with supply chain partners and a small coffee production company using Apple technology.
Apple’s global operations have now transitioned to being carbon-neutral, aiming to achieve a net zero climate impact through its entire operations by 2030. This includes its supply chains and entire product life cycle. The company has also set a goal to eliminate plastic from its products by 2025. (Bloomberg)
