Truecaller service has announced a new collaboration with Microsoft to leverage advanced voice technology provided by Azure AI Speech service.
Artificial intelligence technologies have started to replace voice agents’ functions, as companies now seek ways to replace computer-generated voice models with synthetic voices that resemble human voices.
Truecaller has indicated that it now allows its customers to utilize AI-powered assistant technology to answer phone calls using their own voices.
This new test comes through a partnership with Microsoft, enabling Truecaller to benefit from the personal voice technology introduced by Microsoft in November as part of the Azure AI Speech service.
By utilizing this tool, Truecaller’s assistant can now mimic users’ voices to answer phone calls and greet incoming callers.
Truecaller’s assistant offers a wide range of pre-set voice options to assist in handling incoming calls, screening calls from unknown sources, receiving voice messages, answering on behalf of the user, or even recording calls for later listening.
Truecaller users need to record a short voice text for a few seconds to create a digital copy of their voice, once they approve. This allows the assistant to start answering calls using the digital version of the user’s voice.
Truecaller’s assistant also provides an option to customize the introductory greeting template for callers. However, the service clarified that it retains the default greeting design if the user records their own voice instead of the system’s voice, to indicate that callers hear a digital version of the user’s voice.
Following user preferences, reactions can be customized accordingly. The personal voice feature in Azure AI Speech adds watermarks to generated audio outputs to enable detection tools to recognize synthetic voices.
Truecaller stated: “We believe that the personal voice feature can revolutionize how calls are managed by enhancing the overall experience of Truecaller’s assistant. We are excited to continue exploring the possibilities of voice technologies supported by artificial intelligence in collaboration with Microsoft and provide additional innovative solutions for our users.”
The personal voice feature will be launched in the Truecaller app in the coming weeks in the following countries: the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, Sweden, and Chile.
