In a significant move underscoring its commitment to digital transformation and innovation, the UAE’s Office of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications has launched a Charter for the Development and Usage of Artificial Intelligence. This charter aims to fulfill the objectives of the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy and embodies the visionary leadership’s goal to position the nation as a global hub for developing and adopting AI solutions across various sectors.
Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasized that the UAE government, guided by its visionary leadership, strives to be a global leader in artificial intelligence. This is to be achieved by developing future-oriented infrastructure and an integrated system that employs AI across critical sectors, ensuring a thriving environment that meets the highest standards of safety and privacy, and bolstering public trust in these applications.
He further stated that the UAE leads initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of AI and its applications, intensifying efforts to enhance global partnerships to establish optimal standards for AI technologies. The country is also committed to protecting the rights of individuals, users, and communities, and ensuring the continuous evolution of the digital landscape in the UAE.
The AI Development and Usage Charter, available in detail here, aims to ensure a positive and lasting impact on communities. It establishes principles and frameworks for implementing an optimal AI model that strengthens harmonious and beneficial human-machine interactions, prioritizes safety, fairness, inclusivity, and provides an equitable environment for the community, fostering responsible AI development and ensuring its accessibility to all.
The principles also encompass data privacy, transparency, human oversight, governance, accountability, technological excellence, human commitment, and peaceful coexistence with AI. The charter promotes raising awareness of AI for an inclusive future and leveraging AI advancements to ensure equitable technological access for all societal segments.
