X Platform, formerly known as Twitter, has announced new features that offer a service to summarize news and trending stories on the platform using the intelligent AI assistant called Grok.
The platform has announced that the “For You” section under the Discovery tab will feature summaries of important news and popular stories on the platform.
However, this new feature will not be available to all users, but only to those subscribed to the paid package “X Premium.” The feature will be initially introduced through the X app on the iOS operating system and via the web version.
The section titled “For You” provides the latest news, stories, and popular topics exchanged by members on the platform, along with other selected recommendations. Some individuals tend to use it to keep up with the current conversations on the platform without spending long periods navigating through the main posts’ feed.
By clicking on any story to view related posts, subscribers of the X Premium service will be able to see a brief summary of the story at the top of the screen, allowing them to quickly grasp its content. These summaries are automatically generated by the AI assistant named Grok.
This new feature may prove to be beneficial for many users, but it is essential to note that the AI assistant may create inaccurate sentences or include paragraphs that do not fit the text. Therefore, there is a cautionary statement appearing below the summaries warning of potential inaccuracies by Grok and encouraging individuals to “verify the results it produces.”
Similarly, media reports indicate that Elon Musk, the owner of the platform, is considering implementing measures to introduce a dedicated news section within X. These news items are expected to be supported by AI technologies and analyze user-generated content rather than relying on news agencies or specialized news sites.
Some believe that this move may spark controversy, as the AI assistant “Grok” may not take into account the content of the news and articles themselves but instead rely on the comments and discussions shared by users regarding those news items. It may struggle to provide an accurate and realistic portrayal of the news it produces, as this portrayal could be distorted or biased due to being influenced by users’ reactions and personal opinions.
