According to a report from “Business Insider,” specialized in financial and business news, Amazon intends to release an enhanced version of its smart voice assistant “Alexa” using artificial intelligence technology for a specific subscription.
As per the report, the improved version of “Alexa,” known internally as “Remarkable Alexa,” will rely on a new and significant language model to enhance its performance. However, it seems to be performing below expectations in the current testing phase.
Amazon plans to release the enhanced version of the Alexa device and name it “Alexa Plus” by mid-year despite “internal disagreements” about the usefulness of this launch and whether customers are ready to pay additional fees to use the enhanced version alongside their other subscriptions to various Amazon services.
Furthermore, the enhanced version of Alexa may have limited utility for Amazon customers, as the company demonstrated previews of these additions last September, including features such as issuing multiple commands in one sentence and setting up routines through voice commands only.
The report states that the trial operation is not going as planned so far, as the improved version of Alexa tends to provide inaccurate responses. Nevertheless, its conversational capabilities and personal touch have been enhanced.
Amazon will need to impose a monthly fee to use its enhanced version of the smart voice assistant in order to cover the high costs of operating generative artificial intelligence systems, just like other competing companies currently do.
For instance, OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT is famous for its paid version, which costs around $20 per month, which is approximately the average monthly cost for similar services subscriptions.
