Mohammed Abu Hamra, the Chief Executive Officer of Operations and Digital Technology at “DB World”, reveals Dubai’s Commercial Office plans to integrate generative artificial intelligence into its digital products to facilitate cross-border trade in the Emirate of Dubai and streamline the commercial sector and supply chain.
Abu Hamra spoke to the Emirates News Agency “WAM” about the launch of some digital products that will help streamline the journey of products to the end user, noting the success of the “Dubai Commercial” platform in implementing the International Maritime Organization’s recommendation to have all its seaports equipped with a unified window by 2024.
He pointed out that logistics services involve complex aspects that can be simplified through the use of modern technology.
He mentioned that it might be challenging for individuals to clear a specific commercial shipment, but he noted that purchasing a mobile phone through an e-commerce platform can be easily done with simple steps. Thus, the goal is for both processes to be similar.
Reference was made to an ongoing technological project that aims to expedite operations once the cargo receipt information reaches the port, by taking proactive measures to ensure direct delivery of goods to warehouses without the need for lengthy shipment clearance.
He indicated that supply chains and logistics in the commercial sector, in general, are somewhat lagging in adopting digital technology compared to other sectors globally, and the “Dubai Commercial” platform aims to change this reality.
He stated that there are over 700 digital services available on the “Dubai Commercial” platform, making it the most advanced in this field.
He said they have succeeded in enhancing their position as a provider of commercial and logistic services and the digital arm of DP World Group in the Gulf Cooperation Council region, and their goal for this year is to improve and facilitate the digital services they provide to customers.
Abu Hamra emphasized the importance of the commercial partnership agreements that the UAE has signed with several countries around the world in developing the operations of the “Dubai Commercial” platform during the past year of 2023.
Abu Hamra pointed out the continuous journey of the “Dubai Commercial” platform towards digital innovation, supporting Dubai’s D33 economic agenda. So far, the platform has recorded over 300 million transactions since its establishment in 2003, contributing to reducing the use of approximately 617 million printed documents. Last year, the platform completed 32.6 million transactions, a 25% increase compared to 2022, where the number of transactions was 26 million.
