On Monday, Google announced its plans to help train individuals in Europe in artificial intelligence skills.
Large technology companies are investing in developing employees and economies amidst rapidly evolving competitive technologies.
Google announced providing funding of 25 million euros (approximately 26.9 million dollars) to support training in artificial intelligence and develop related skills for individuals across Europe.
The funding focuses on supporting marginalized and disadvantaged groups. Google is offering 10 million euros through the “AI Opportunities for Europe” initiative to ensure that workers do not fall behind in adapting to smart technology advancements.
The company stated it is partnering with the Public Impact Center, an institution funded by the Boston Consulting Group, to help identify social institutions and non-profit organizations that can reach target groups to benefit from the training.
The initiative also supports a series of emerging growth academies in various regions around the world such as Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This program supports projects that use smart technologies to address major social and economic challenges.
The company has expanded the scope of free online AI training courses to include 18 languages.
Matt Brittin, Google’s President for Europe, Middle East, and Africa, stated in the initiative announcement: Everyone must contribute to building intelligent technology and make it accessible to all for everyone’s benefit.
Brittin clarified that Google is taking responsibility to help use smart technology to build a better, fairer, healthier, strong, and just society as a rapidly growing leader in this industry.
Similar initiatives show that the giant research company is committed to responsibly supporting the development of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence has tremendous potential to change the world for the better, and research indicates that the benefits of artificial intelligence may exacerbate existing inequalities, especially in areas of economic security and employment.
Google’s new initiative in Europe aims to help people develop their knowledge, skills, and culture in the field of artificial intelligence to ensure that no one lags behind the general level.
Last month, Google announced a billion-dollar investment in establishing a data center outside London as part of its efforts to meet the increasing demand for internet services in that region.
