Google is testing a new feature in Gmail that allows it to summarize email messages using Gemini, its artificial intelligence assistant. In addition to summarizing messages, Gemini will also be able to summarize PDF files and other documents.
According to the published images, a new button will appear allowing Gmail users to summarize email messages when opened. Upon clicking the button, a brief summary will appear in the Gemini window, where users can provide feedback and even copy it.
This enhancement comes at a time when Google is focusing on its Google I/O 2024 developer conference, where new features for Gemini and others are expected to be announced.
This feature remains especially useful for long messages that take a long time to read, and is expected to be available to all Gmail users soon, although some researchers have already managed to access this feature.
Furthermore, the Google team is working on improving Gemini by adding other features such as converting PDF files into editable texts, noting that some of these features may only be available to Workspace subscribers.
Gemini is expected to replace Google Assistant and will be compatible with Android 10, 11, and newer versions.
