The owner of the X platform announced that the company, previously known as Twitter, will soon offer the artificial intelligence chatbot Grok to more paying subscribers.
This comes after xAI, a subsidiary of the billionaire, announced the open-sourcing of the AI chatbot Grok in early March.
In a tweet, Musk announced that Grok will be accessible to Premium package subscribers this week, not only to Plus package subscribers as it was previously.
Musk posted a video explaining how to interact with the chatbot through X.
This move reflects a direct competition with other renowned chatbots, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI and Claude from Anthropic.
This may be seen as an attempt by X to increase its subscriber base. These news come at a time when data shows a decrease in X users, making the platform struggle to retain its audience.
According to recent data released in February by Sensor Tower, the use of the X app in the United States declined by 18% annually, while usage dropped by 23% since Musk’s acquisition.
Sensor Tower found that Musk’s war on advertisers has also affected revenue expectations for the company, as a significant number of top American advertisers on X no longer spend their advertising budget on this platform.
Thredz has gained popularity thanks to Meta’s resources, with its monthly user base surpassing 130 million users.
Musk did not specify the availability date of Grok for X users, but he indicated that it will be accessible to Premium subscribers at some point during this week.
The Premium subscription is available for $8 monthly or $84 annually, and Grok was previously only available to + Premium subscribers, a subscription priced at $16 monthly or $168 annually.
Grok may attract many users because it can answer questions related to topics that are usually avoided by other chatbots, such as conspiracies and controversial political ideas.
