The Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence announced the appointment of Professor Timothy Baldwin as the Dean of the university.
Dr. Baldwin is a distinguished scientific figure in the field of natural language processing technology and has made significant contributions internationally in this field. Before assuming this role, he held important positions including chairing the Department of Natural Language Processing, serving as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and acting as the Dean. During this time, he played an effective role that had a significant impact on advancing the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence and making a qualitative leap in its development over the past two years.
During his tenure at the university, Professor Baldwin contributed to launching several pioneering projects, which significantly contributed to the development and growth of the university, enhancing its reputation and status.
Among the significant achievements he contributed to was the establishment of three new academic departments: Robotics Department, Computer Science Department, and Statistics and Data Science Department, which expanded the academic framework within the university.
Additionally, Professor Baldwin appointed twenty-five new faculty members, resulting in an increase in the faculty numbers by more than half of their original ratio.
He also supervised the accreditation of new postgraduate programs in the fields of Computer Science and Robotics, parallel to his efforts to enhance the emerging Department of Statistics and Data Analytics.
Among his achievements, he developed a comprehensive plan to professionally equip students, aiming to prepare the students of the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence to excel in their professional lives after completing their university studies.
Professor Baldwin is involved in leading the technical development of the “JIES” project, the groundbreaking Arabic linguistic model, reflecting the commitment of the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence to innovate modern artificial intelligence technologies that reach global standards.
He designed a specialized research training program for university students, and oversaw the management of the first group of participants. The program, which achieved remarkable success, provided participants with valuable research experiences.
In addition to his organizational duties, Professor Baldwin continued to maintain an outstanding academic record, publishing twenty-three scientific papers in 2023 and receiving accolades at important conferences, such as the European Computational Linguistics Association Conference for 2023 and the Integrated Conference for Linguistic Meanings and Computer Techniques of the same year, contributing to enhancing his academic reputation in the specialized field of natural language processing.
