The video-sharing platform YouTube has announced the addition of a new feature that allows users to request the removal of content that uses artificial intelligence technologies to mimic their faces or voices, as part of its efforts to combat the unauthorized use of these technologies.
According to Android Authority website, this step was taken to address the growing concerns regarding the use of smart technology in mimicking individuals’ behavior.
YouTube platform has confirmed that misuse of the complaint model may result in suspension of the user’s account on the platform, as the platform realizes that this system could be improperly used to harass content creators.
YouTube platform has pledged to manually review removal requests, aiming to ensure the reported content is classified as satire or mocking, especially when it involves famous personalities.
Earlier this year, YouTube imposed a requirement on content creators to disclose any videos created using AI technology to alter real events or create actions for individuals.
For transparency, content creators must clarify that AI-generated content needs to be marked as such in the description fields on the platform. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in content removal and expulsion from the ad-sharing program.
The emergence of generative AI tools has raised widespread ethical concerns, with creators worldwide accusing major tech companies of benefiting from their artistic works without obtaining the necessary approval to train AI models.
The capabilities of AI have evolved to enable the creation of incredibly realistic images, voices, and videos, which raises concerns about the potential use of these capabilities to spread misleading information through social media, especially in significant events like the upcoming US presidential elections.
