Yesterday evening, the American technology company “Google” announced a set of new features that rely on artificial intelligence to protect user data in case of theft of Android phones.
The German news agency “DPA” quoted Fabio Coelho, the regional director of Google in Brazil, where he stated that Brazil, which witnesses about two mobile phone thefts every minute, will be the first country to test the new system.
He mentioned that the evaluation of Brazilian users was a source of inspiration for anti-theft features, and they will be tested for the first time in this country.
Starting from next July, smartphone users in Brazil who own devices compatible with the Android operating system will be able to get a trial version of the new features that allow the automatic detection of phone theft and remote locking without the need for an internet connection when theft occurs.
The new feature relies on artificial intelligence to detect the possibility of the device being stolen by monitoring unusual movements associated with theft operations and locking the device screen upon detection, aiming to prevent thieves from easily accessing the stored information on the device.
The remote locking option will allow the user to access the “Find My Device” feature and activate it without the need to remember their Google account password. The user can remotely lock the device, in addition to the automatic screen lock of the stolen device to protect the data on it, even when not connected to the network.
The screen will be locked if multiple attempts to enter the password are made.
It was mentioned that Google has also introduced a trial version of the fraud protection service in Brazil after it was previously tested in Singapore and Thailand.
